Today’s article is in response to a question about the powers of the Local Traffic Committee.
The question is:
What does an approval from the Local Traffic Committee look like?
The answer is that the Local Traffic Committee is an advisory committee only and has no decision-making powers. It does not issue approvals.
Advice from the Local Traffic Committee must be one of the following outcomes:
- unanimous support;
- majority support;
- split vote;
- minority support; or
- unanimous decline.
This outcome is then reported to the elected Council, or their sub-delegate, for approval. In some instances approval will be required from the Roads and Maritime Authority.
